The Board of Trustees for the Westside Union School District requires students to maintain a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average with no grades of âFâ each semester in order to be promoted to the next grade level. Maintaining this requirement insures that students will earn a total of 10 units per year in the following subject areas: Language Arts, History, Math, Science, P.E. and Elective. Students who receive below a 2.0 GPA and/or have grade(s) of an âFâ in any class therefore do not earn their credit and will be at risk of being retained and must complete credit retrieval. In addition, eighth grade students must have a 2.0 GPA and cannot have any "F" grades to be allowed to participate in the graduation festivities which include the graduation ceremony, the graduation dance, and the Magic Mountain trip. Eighth grade students who have at least a 1.83 GPA (and no more than one "F" grade) 1st semester may earn the opportunity to walk the stage, and participate in other graduation activities, as long as they successfully complete the spring credit retrieval and maintain a 2.0 and no "F" grades on their second semester report card.
